10. Matheran, Maharashtra

Located in Raigad district, Maharashtra, Matheran is the smallest hill station in India. Do not go on size, the saying, “small packet, big bang,” suits the place. It is located at an elevation of around 800 m (2,625 feet) above sea level. Another fact about this place is that it is Asia’s only automobile free hill station. Talking about the places of sightseeing, it has altogether 28 points, 2 lakes, 2 parks and 4 major places of worship. You need at least 2-3 days to explore it all. Celia Pt (a water fall mouth), Porcupine Pt (Sun Set Pt), Khandala Pt, Panorama Point (Sun Rise Pt), Pisarnath Temple, One Tree Hill Pt, Little Chowk Pt, are some of the points famous.

Reaching the station, you should visit, Kodaikanal Lake, which is an artificial star shaped lake, which offers rowboats and pedalos for exploring the scenery of the lake.

Mussoorie, the queen of hills, is located at an elevation of 2,005.5 m, is spectacularly beautiful. It is easily accessible, and talking of the weather and temperature, wow! Yes, it would be apt to say “Incredible India.” This lovely hill station will provide you the apt summer vacation, you have been searching for. The place is located at an elevation of 2,050 m. it has average high temperature of 15.98 degree Celsius. Now, you can imagine, won’t this place save you from the scorching heat of sun. It is rich in flora and fauna. Flora around Darjeeling comprises Sal, oak, semi-evergreen, temperate and alpine forests. The fauna found in Darjeeling includes several species of ducks, teals, plovers and gulls. The Darjeeling toy train is unique and you would love this experience.

Another hill station rich in flora and fauna is waiting to welcome you. Well, the name Munnar means, “three rivers”,as it is on the meeting point of Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers. The temperature ranges between 15 °C (59 °F) and 25 °C (77 °F) in summer. Mattupetty Dam, Mattupedi Dairy Farm, Kundala Lake, Tea Museum, Attukad Waterfalls are some sightseeings here, which will refresh your eyes and mind.

I visited it recently, and still have the memories alive in my heart. Situated at a height of 2050 m, giving fabulous vibes, away from the pollution and noise (but you could still hear the noise of water, however, that was pleasant), what a beauty to behold. Truly. I remember the water as clear as crystal, the waterfalls, the lovely trees, the Mall road (I wish there was one such place near my college), the Hidimba Temple, the journey to 50 km place ahead- Rohtang, the Solang valley, all were awesome. The view at night from the terrace of hotels is fantastic. I felt, as if the stars were on the ground. for the time, I felt, as if I never knew what the dry summers really are.

I envy you all who have got to visit the place, for I haven’t. Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. It stands by the rushing water of the Jhelum and the Dal Lake. The beautiful picturesque is distinguished feature. Situated in the Kashmir valley, a place on earth, called heaven, abounded by the beauty of Himalayas and nature, is fascinating. Dal Lake, Nagin Lake, Mughal Gardens, Shankaracharya Hill, Hazratbal Mosque, Chashmashahi ( a royal spring), is some sightseeing that lures people. The perfect destination, away from the hot summers, in the midst of peace, peace and peace.
